A big thanks to Gisele.

Posted: October 21, 2010 by sarahbod in celebrities, run, running gear

Today’s run: 10km time: 57:50 … and all thanks to the following celebrity beach body. (Zach just didn’t do it for me.)

All this and a cute baby too! Her husband’s not so bad either.

I had a pretty big break in my day at work and instead of filling my face with the seasonal  mini chocolate bars, I decided to head out for a run. It is a beautiful day and I was long past due for one! I also wanted to test out my new socks that we were given at the turkey trot. New Balance something or other socks. Is there really anything better than putting on a pair of brand new socks??!  They are even convieniently labelled left and right. Idiot proof!! I love it!

Brilliant! Labelled socks!

Now back to work to day dream about looking like Gisele, while wearing new socks and filling my face with mini coffee crisps. Life is good! SB

One for the history books.

Posted: September 27, 2010 by sarahbod in run, running gear, Vancouver

Didn’t want to run today or yesterday … or Friday. This is why my scheduled run for Friday actually took place today. Better late than never though. So, today I ran 10.13km in 1:02:11. Not my greatest 10km run but I will blame the extra few minutes on my saving a crack head from near death. I wish I was kidding. It is a story that will trump all of my running experiences.

As I was beginning to climb the stairs leading to the Burrard street bridge I notice that half way up there was a young guy standing over a woman who was obviously having trouble standing. As I approached she kept saying she was sorry to me. Sorry for what I am still unsure. She honestly looked like she was going to pass out. So, being a small town girl at heart I offered her water. No need to worry … my water bottle did not come anywhere near her or her mouth. I pretty much just doused her as per her request.  Sick! She seemed to come to after the water and carried on her merry way to do God knows what!

Needless to say…the run will go down in the history books. Gotta love Vancouver! Ha! Now for the real highlight of day…new running gloves!!!

Much like a crow I am attracted to all things shiny. pretty!

They go so well with my iFitness running belt I bought in Anaheim … oh, and I added the water bottles. 9.99 each from the running room. Do I dare say it? Bring on the colder weather … I wanna wear my new gloves! SB

Running in the rain.

Posted: September 25, 2010 by sarahbod in run, running gear, Vancouver

Thursday after work I set out for an 8km run around the seawall, in the pouring rain. Much like Gene Kelly I made the most of it. I wasn’t singing per say but definitely depended on my playlist to keep me going. I found it hard to really get in the right head space. Squinting to keep the rain out of my eyes, dodging puddles and running with soaking wet shoes. I did however enjoy the temperature as I am not a huge fan of running in the heat.

Singing in the rain may be glorious..running, not so much.

I know that I will be doing a lot of running in the rain. I do live in Vancouver and I have lots of rain to look forward to over the next few months. I can live with that, considering the average temperature all winter is 5 degrees!

So now for my running in the rain wish list:

1)running gloves – my fingers were freezing for the first few km’s. Lululemon has a great pair for $26.00

2) cap – so I’m not blinded by the rain.

3) maybe a second pair of runners -They still weren’t dry the following morning.

So, off to the running room and lululemon I go…yay, shopping! SB

A Ruga day!

Posted: September 21, 2010 by sarahbod in celebrities, run, running gear, Yoga

Today I decided to start a proper training schedule for a 1/2 marathon. As I have mentioned in a previous blog, I am considering running the fall classic here in Vancity in November and I now have a benchmark time to beat! I started back running on Sunday with a 5km run. Felt good to get back out running and even threw in a few hills! Believe me, I’m still not lovin the running …. Let’s just say I’m in major “like.”

Unlike this nut who runs everyday!!! I already knew she was crazy...but, everyday!?!

I was definitely tested by the running Gods today! My ipod died approx. halfway through my run. Which according to my “Nike coach” was to be 5miles long with 4x400m sprints (2-4 minute jogs in between.) I shockingly continued to run (and sprint) even after the unfortunate death. I ran the approx. 5miles and completed all four sprints, which were tough…but made the regular paced running seem so much easier!!!

I then returned home for the “ga” part of my day. 90 min of yoga with the douchiest (is that even a word?) yogi I have ever seen. Those of you who have done the P90x yoga dvd will agree!

Sadly...I completed a yoga dvd lead by this man. It was X-treme!

I’ve decided I need to incorporate yoga into my running schedule more often. It felt good to stretch, and my hips are still thanking me. My eyes and ears…not so much. Mr. Horton is definitely not zen. SB

Running ain’t cheap!

Posted: August 3, 2010 by sarahbod in run, running gear, Vancouver

My run today had the potential to be very expensive.  The run itself was actually not too bad. I made the rookie mistake of heading out on my run at 11:00am. So it was hot. I had my route planned before I left and had a goal of 10km. Which I completed in 1:01:23. Slower than my previous 10km but I was just happy to finish after having taken a few days off. I also loved running over the Burrard bridge and through Yaletown where I questioned on more than one occasion if people were walking gerbals or small dogs.

The bridge to near disaster!

Now to the “expensive” part of my run. I’ll keep it short. As many of you know I seem to think Blackberrys are disposable. Today was no exception. My Blackberry fell out of my ever so fashionable fanny pack after crossing the bridge and I didn’t realize it until approx. 2 km after it had fallen out. Thankfully, crisis was averted when I retraced my steps and found it!! Phew! Secondly, my  ipod nano (Which I have previously washed on two occasions) has a “foggy” screen from my profuse sweating during the run. It has not quite returned to normal, but fingers are crossed!! I may be slightly disgusted and embarrassed if it survives two trips through the washing machine and not running with me. SB

Reasons to Run.

Posted: July 29, 2010 by sarahbod in 1/2 marathon, run, running articles, running gear, WINE!

The obvious reason for myself, at this moment is that I am running a 1/2 marathon in just a little over 5 weeks! The other reasons have not been so obvious, but after last night I realized that it has also become a common interest for Brad and I (and my fellow piraterunners) which is pretty cool.

We went for our first run together after some time. I really haven’t wanted to run with him since his triathlon because I thought he may be too fast. I did however keep up with him throughout our entire 8km run and enjoyed not only our time together, but the run too! Imagine that!?! We finished our run in around 45 min…I think. Our nike/ipod thingy’s weren’t exactly on the same page.

The Nike ipod sensor can currently be described as "shady" hmmmm.

I can’t say for sure if I’ll continue running after September, but may after reading the following article.

Let’s be real … I don’t exactly love running,  but I do love red wine and those empty calories aren’t gonna burn themselves! SB

Running with Rage!

Posted: July 20, 2010 by sarahbod in Music, run, running gear

Monday=Runday. As we all know I have had some trouble running on weekends. So today I decided that I should make up for it and try to run my longest distance yet. I did it, but it was tough. At around the 4th km I stopped quickly to tie my shoelace (aka took a moment to contemplate quitting) Thankfully I was quickly distracted by the newly erected Cirque du Soleil tent at Concord Place. (I can’t wait to see Kooza with some of my fellow piraterunners at the end of the month!)

Loved the 10 second break I took to snap this pic with my BB

I continued the run even though my knee were pretty sore. The “TSN turning point” occurred around the 8th km when a certain song started playing on my ipod. I seriously had trouble not rocking out with an air guitar while running! It was awesome though. Between “Bulls on Parade” and an interesting gooey gel, which was gu-reat! I was able to complete 12km in 1:14:44.

Now to download some more music from my teenage angst years. It’s like red bull for the ears!!! SB
