5 more sleeps!!!

Are you ready piraterunners??!??! I am not! I’m nervous and actually feel as though I was more ready for the run a month ago then I am right now!! I’ve been online checking some last minute prepping reccomendations. Here are few I found:

Race Morning
Set your alarm to wake up early so you have plenty of time before the race. You need to be awake and alert. It is also important to get your body functioning and have a bowel movement to get rid of last night’s final carbohydrates. Sometimes drinking 1-2 cups of water or coffee will assist in this process.

Really?? Wake up early!!? Isn’t our race at 6am?? Alert?? It takes me hours to become “alert” after waking up, let alone waking up at the crack of dawn! Will it even be light out?? Also, bowel movement? Coffee? Seriously, I don’t even speak a word until I’ve been awake for at least an hour.  This is going to be interesting!

Getting Ready

Preventing chafing over the marathon distance is important. Vaseline or other athletic skin lubricant can be put wherever 2 body surfaces will rub together or where the edge or seam on clothing will rub on the skin. Also, to prevent the infamous “black toe” and other foot problems , shoes should have at least a thumb’s width of length beyond your longest toe when standing.

Wow, chafing? black toe? Running is certainly not glamorous! (but I know someone that is!)

The article continues with several more “preparations” but I just couldn’t bring myself to read them. Ready or not….here we come!!!! SB

Running…East coast style!

Posted: August 7, 2010 by sarahbod in Music, run

Last night Brad and I arrived in Halifax for 10 days of family, friends, fun and lobster!!! We are looking forward spending our time here in Nova Scotia and then P.E.I. where we will be attending my brother-in-law’s wedding. Early congrats to Lee and Chantelle!

Now to the run. I have to admit, I am a little shocked to say that I ran today, which of course is Saturday (the weekend) and it’s my first day of holidays. I ran 5km in 29 minutes. The run took me up and down a few hills which I wasn’t anticipating but actually didn’t hate. I may have been more inclined to curse the entire way up if I had been running a longer distance. It was also nice to have a change of scenery. I love my seawall runs but there is something about running with no one else around that is really … somewhat … peaceful? Wow, I just referred to running as peaceful. Again, shocking!!

My hope is that I’ll get a few more runs in during our time here on the East coast. I can’t wait to run in Charlottetown! I actually brought some routes that I found mapped out in a running magazine. It looks beautiful there! Also, thought I’d share a song from my playlist today…fitting really, they are from Halifax! SB

Running with Rage!

Posted: July 20, 2010 by sarahbod in Music, run, running gear

Monday=Runday. As we all know I have had some trouble running on weekends. So today I decided that I should make up for it and try to run my longest distance yet. I did it, but it was tough. At around the 4th km I stopped quickly to tie my shoelace (aka took a moment to contemplate quitting) Thankfully I was quickly distracted by the newly erected Cirque du Soleil tent at Concord Place. (I can’t wait to see Kooza with some of my fellow piraterunners at the end of the month!)

Loved the 10 second break I took to snap this pic with my BB

I continued the run even though my knee were pretty sore. The “TSN turning point” occurred around the 8th km when a certain song started playing on my ipod. I seriously had trouble not rocking out with an air guitar while running! It was awesome though. Between “Bulls on Parade” and an interesting gooey gel, which was gu-reat! I was able to complete 12km in 1:14:44.

Now to download some more music from my teenage angst years. It’s like red bull for the ears!!! SB

Is it me….or is it hot out here?!

So running in Mississauga this past week has royally sucked. It is stankin’ hot but I’ve been doing it anyway. Thankfully I live close to the lake so it is a bit cooler. Stella and Guido decided to join me for my run Saturday…

Guido kept taking breaks to cool his tummy on the grass which in turn made Stella wanna get out of her jogging stroller and roll on the ground.

Thankfully my run at 7a.m. was a little more productive. Other  than difficulty breathing it was smooth sailing. Oh Sarah since you’ve started the “what we listen to when we run” segment here is my contribution I CANNOT STOP listening to this album (are they still called albums?) The Black Keys— Brothers absolutely fabulous and the video is so gosh darn cute!

I did it!

It was short. Not a great time. I got sunscreen in my eye. I ran by the stinkiest homeless person….but, I did it! I slept in a bit and left myself only 20 minutes for a run. It’s better than nothing though and considering Summer is finally here, and it may be a little too hot to get a run in after work. Thought I’d share my “power song” of the run. Don’t judge!

Really, who doesn’t want a body like Nicole??  In her words she’s a “sexy mama!” SB
